Tucked away
on Lakeshore Rd. in Oakville, Chris Tekavcic believes that customers
think it's worth the effort of finding Cafe Galleria. "We have a
traditional Italian menu. Lots of pasta, veal dishes, chicken and
seafood. Spaghettini Pescatore is a specialty of the house with clams,
shrimp, mussels and calamari in a marinara sauce," he said.
"We also have four or five specials per day" When it comes to
creating the menu, Tekavcic collaborates with chef and mentor, Sal
Mercato. "I began as a dishwasher and Sal taught me what I
know," he said. Tekavcic is part of a father/son
team that owns and operates Cafe Galleria. In addition to daily
operations, Peter Tekavcic is also responsible for the artwork that
you'll find as a large part of the decor. (Yes, it's available for
sale.) "Patrons have commented that Cafe Galleria looks like a
restaurant that you'd actually find in Italy. It is authentic and very
traditional," says Tekavcic. That authenticity goes right down to
the wine list, which features many Italian varieties. Advice to new
cooks? "Don't worry too much. Most people tend to be scared when
they're cooking something new Most times you can't go wrong." Cafe Galleria is
available for intimate. functions, due to a small bar area that can
nicely accommodate parties of about 15. Cafe Galleria put together a dish
of veal tenderloin medallions in a bourbon cream sauce. "We've paired
the veal with field mushrooms and peppercorns. The peppercorns add a
little bite, but the dish is very smooth. We went for a taste of the
south." Back to "In the News" |
